What is AHP?
The Analytic Hierarchy Process (Saaty) turns multi-criteria decisions into a hierarchy: Goal → Criteria → Alternatives. You compare elements pairwise on a 1–9 intensity scale, derive priority weights, and combine them into an overall ranking.
Saaty scale
1 = equal · 3 = moderate · 5 = strong · 7 = very strong · 9 = extreme (2,4,6,8 are intermediate).
If criterion A vs B is rated 5, then B vs A must be 1/5 (reciprocal property).
Priorities & consistency
This solver uses the geometric-mean method to estimate the priority vector of each pairwise matrix.
Consistency Ratio CR = CI / RI, where CI = (λₘₐₓ − n)/(n − 1). CR ≤ 0.10 is usually acceptable; higher means revise judgments.
Overall score
The alternative with the highest score is preferred under the stated judgments.
Vendor selection example
Criteria: Cost, Quality, Delivery. Alternatives: Vendor A / B / C. Quality is judged more important than Cost; under Cost, Vendor C is cheapest; under Quality, Vendor A leads.
